CEREMONY FOR “DEGREE THESIS AWARD FOR WOMEN’S ENGINEERING”. ALL TOGETHER TO CELEBRATE THE VALUE AND CONTRIBUTION OF WOMEN IN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

On November 14, the fourth edition of degree thesis award for the female “Ingenio” took place in the Conference Room of the General Command of the Port Authorities – Coast Guard in Rome, in which Solesi Spa participated and contributed as Ambassador and evaluator of the candidates for the year 2024.
This award, born from the initiative of the National Council of Engineers, is part of a broader project that aims to support and enhance female figures in the scientific sector and in the engineering sector, in line with Objective 5, Gender Equality, of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of the United Nations.
The theme chosen for the fourth edition of the Award was “The 5.0 paradigm and the strategic role of Engineering”.
The 5.0 paradigm of economic development (at the basis of the European Commission report “Industry 5.0 – Towards a sustainable, humancentric and resilient European industry”) is based on the now generally acquired awareness that an approach oriented exclusively towards profit is no longer viable but must be inspired by three fundamental concepts: centrality of the person; resilience; sustainability.
The winners of the award were selected from approximately 200 candidates, Italian graduates in engineering (both bachelor’s and master’s degrees) or recent research doctors.
The growing participation of female engineers in the competition represents significant progress. Their presence demonstrates the value of female skills and innovative ideas that are starting to shape this sector, traditionally dominated by men.
This edition of the award was not only an opportunity to recognize merit, but also wanted to underline the importance of creating a safe working environment, free from violence and discrimination and for this reason a special award was established dedicated to the memory of Giulia Cecchettin and intended for theses in biomedical engineering. Solesi Spa is actively committed to supporting initiatives that aim to emancipate and enhance women and to help build a more equitable and inclusive professional future. Participation in the “Ingenio al Femminile” award represents, for the company, not only a moment of celebration, but a declaration of intent towards overcoming gender barriers and promoting cultural change, stimulating an inclusive and diverse working environment.

CULTURAL DIVERSITY AS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR GROWTH: DIALOGUE BETWEEN CULTURE AND IDENTITY IN THE ERA OF GLOBAL CRISES

Recently, the 77th National Congress of the Intercultura ODV association took place in Syracuse, an event rich in meaning and opportunities for cultural growth.

On this occasion, the Solesi SPA company had the privilege of actively supporting the initiative, helping to promote the synergy between different cultural traditions.

The conference entitled “CHANGING FRONTIERS, belonging to multiple cultures: dialogue between culture and identity in the era of global crises” offered an important opportunity to delve into fundamental issues such as the climate crisis, global inequalities and political tensions.

During the three intense days of meetings, the congress brought together numerous representatives from different contexts. In particular, the opening ceremony saw the participation of important figures, including Giorgia Butera, President of Mete and of the International Observatory for Human Rights and Research, and Antonio Vigilante, former United Nations official.

The main objective of the Congress was to foster mutual understanding and constructive collaboration, which are essential elements for building bridges between communities and encouraging intercultural dialogue.

Solesi, in particular, is committed to promoting youth sustainability campaigns on a daily basis, recognizing the importance of offering young people the resources needed for high-level personal and professional training.

The Intercultura ODV association and Solesi share the vision that involving young people in these issues can contribute to a more cohesive and open society. This commitment to training young people is essential in a context in which future generations will be called upon to face increasingly complex and global challenges.

Through its support for these events, Solesi demonstrates its commitment to active social responsibility, creating opportunities for young people and nurturing a future in which cultural diversity is seen as a precious resource. This congress represents an important step towards a more inclusive community and quality training that embraces the entire world.

A NEW CHAPTER IN OUR HISTORY: OUR FIRST SUSTAINABILITY REPORT

We are pleased to present our first Sustainability Report, a document that represents an important milestone in our journey towards a more sustainable future. This report is not only a record of our achievements, but it is also a promise of continued commitment to the planet and the communities in which we operate.

Over the past few years, we have worked with dedication to integrate the principles of sustainability into every aspect of our business. From production processes to supplier relations, every choice has been guided by the desire to minimize our environmental impact and maximize our positive impact on society.

However, we are aware that there is still a long way to go.

Our first Sustainability Report is just the beginning of a long journey. We are convinced that sustainability is a fundamental value and that a collective commitment is necessary to address the environmental and social challenges of our time.

We invite all our stakeholders – customers, employees, suppliers, investors and local communities – to join us on this journey. Together we can build a more sustainable future for future generations.

Learn more about our commitment to sustainability by reading our full 2023 Sustainability Report.

AN INCREASINGLY MORE INCLUSIVE AND FAIR WORKING REALITY: THE OBJECTIVE OF SOLESI S.P.A.

Rewarding talented young girls graduates not only celebrates their commitment and success, but at the same time gives them the opportunity to excel within an increasingly inclusive and equitable working environment.

An ideal that Paolo Augliera, Sole Director of Solesi S.p.A., has always supported.

To further strengthen this commitment this year Solesi S.p.A. also wanted to contribute by supporting the “Ingenio al femminile” project, promoted by the National Council of Engineers and aimed at enhancing female talents and professionalism in engineering.
The project also represents a concrete institutional response to one of the objectives set by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of the United Nations Organization. This concerns, in particular, Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.
Our participation in the female Ingenio Award is intended as a warning to young women who are about to embark on a university career in STEM subjects, i.e. Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, to collaborate to the breaking down of stereotypes and beliefs.

Every individual, whether man or woman, must be free to study and make their own contribution to society. We want to give value to skills. Establish new relationships and acquaintances with young students, fresh minds with dynamic visions who have distinguished themselves brilliantly in their studies.
Solesi S.p.A. is convinced that female strength represents a driving factor in every activity and especially in the construction sector, where the male figure continues to be more pronounced. Day after day, we realize how fundamental the figure of a female technician is: it is no coincidence that 35% of coordination and management roles in Solesi S.p.A. are occupied by women and, on construction sites, they carry out important roles in the HSE-Q Department.
We continue to work every day imagining ourselves as a structure in which everyone does their part. Men may be the pillars and women the beams, but we will be important to each other, all necessary so that the structure, in its entirety, continues to be solid and resistant to stress.

The deadline for submitting applications for young female engineers and PhDs is open until 12:00 on 22 July 2024. Visit the reference website for more details.

SYNERGIES ON SITE: STUDENTS AND PROFESSIONALS AT THE CONSTRUCTION SITE OF SOLESI S.P.A. FOR SYRAKA WINERY IN SYRACUSE

Solesi S.p.A. and Cammisa Costruzioni S.r.l. opened the doors of the “Syraka Winery in Syracuse” construction site to the students of the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Syracuse. The visit, led by Professor Luigi Alini, was made possible thanks to Francesco Polito and the engineers Cristina Foti and Giuseppe Liarda, with the support of the architect Tortorici of the OPT of Syracuse (Joint Territorial Body for Construction). During the lesson on site, held as part of the course of study dedicated to executive design, construction systems, technological innovation and safety were discussed.

The meeting stimulated a dialogue between students, designers, and company representatives, with our Dimitri Garofalo (Solesi S.p.A.) and Salvatore La Rosa (Cammisa Costruzioni S.r.l.), allowing students to deepen their practical knowledge of the sector. The enthusiasm and participation of the students was remarkable, a positive sign for the future of the construction sector and for the integration between academic training and job opportunities.
